I'm not going to lie, I started the year with some uncertainty. I knew I was being made redundant, applied for god knows how many jobs. Had quite a lot of interviews- none was successful and 1 I still not heard if I was successful or not & was really surprised as it was for a charity that help 100s of people every day!
I was getting fed up of all the knock backs to the interviews, after a few of my clients & friends behind me, I decided f it, I took the biggest gamble of my life & decided to go self employed!
I managed to get new PT clients & was building classes back up after I returned from my spinal issues!
I was privileged to be able to present my IncluSeat brand at FitJam at Alton Towers, it had so much great feedback! And cannot wait to go back and present in January.
I also went to Ribby in April & was great to catch up with all my fitness friends. It was a much needed weekend with lots of laughter!
I was building up work slowly but surely. The highlight was being asked to work on the new limitless cycling sessions that I previously worked on when they were wheels for all cycling sessions in my previous job. I realised I really missed the clients & the support workers. It was great to be back working on a project I absolutely love.
I also did more tutoring & spreading my knowledge on to other fitpros!
Everything was going swimmingly well, then I thought I had a back relapse, struggled to walk. Listened to the advice my spinal Consultant Neil Orpen gave me. Followed it to the T.
I had a tough decision to make when my 18.5 yr old kitty got I’ll & had to send her to kitty heaven, where she was reunited with her daughter!
In this time I found out I was shortlisted for the disability power 100 and I managed to go up to the Fits up event & Heart & Soul awards in Aberdeen. Went up with 1 of my clients who was a finalist in the participant award & a fellow instructor friend.
Managed to do the fits up event seated & the awards was an amazing evening. Not only did my client pick up participant of the year award, I won south west instructor of the year award. So not expecting that one at all. And great to see my fitness friends too.
A few weeks after being back from Aberdeen, I fell I’ll with what I thought was a sickness bug. I’m usually sick for 1-2 days max, but I wasn’t improving so on the Saturday, rung up 111 & was advised to go up to urgent care. Which I did. To cut a long story short & after 11 hours, blood tests, contrast CT scan, i was admitted at 10.30pm at night. At midnight, a consultant came to update me, with what they found & told me I was being taken to Southmead in Bristol. I was transported by an ambulance at 3.30am, and I was really disappointed as they didn’t put the blue lights on, not even for 10 seconds 🤣.
I won’t lie, I have a massive anxiety about being treated in any hospital & absolutely hate being in hospital. It all stems from the treatment I had as a baby / toddler. I was really scared as I was given limited information.
The staff at Southmead were absolutely amazing with me. I had a extremely nice anaesthetist who knew Swindon well The ridgeway well, & used this to knock me out!
The emergency / life saving surgery went well. And I was glad for the free tv to keep me entertained. When your in hospital 30 miles from your friends, it can be boring as they can’t just pop in to see you. I was so grateful to Neil, who did a great job of guessing what was wrong with me but most importantly gave me so much reassurance, relaxed me right down & explained everything to why it was an emergency, and explained it all in Sam language! I literally cannot thank him enough!
I was sent home the next day & was under consultants strict orders to cut down on work & when he found out my job, told me no jigging around! That is my job! I had to find away to teach seated with no jigging around 🤣 my class crew found this really funny!
I managed this, along with deciding what work I wanted to keep!
I had to go back for the 2nd part of the op which happened at the end of October!
All went well and I’m back to my normal again!
I managed to get away with the family just before the op, and spent a week with my gorgeous niece and nephew. This provided me with the perfect time to relax my body before the op.
I returned to work and slowly been building my fitness levels up, trying to loosen up my cp legs tight muscles. And get back to my full work schedule.
I not only found out that NeuroHiit was placed 2nd in HIIT Based Workout at the British Fitness Awards, but I also found out I was a finalist and was placed within the disability power 100 list.
Along with mum, we went up to the finalists evening at The Drum, Wembley in November. It was a lovely evening and met some amazing disabled people. I was extremely shocked and amazed that I came 2nd in my category, sport, health & wellbeing. This is an amazing achievement and the first time the fitness industry has made it into the disability power 100 list.
I have and will cherish all the professionals I have connected & continue to work with and look forward to working with them again next year.
I already been given more classes that start next year! 💪
I end the year on a high and cannot wait to see what 2025 brings…
I will end this with a huge thank you to my ladies & gents, for their continued support. Supported me despite my health issues over the past 18 months! Thank you 💜
